Whether you are a first time parent or have been through this all before, as an expecting mum celebrating and capturing this exciting moment in your life is a must! A Maternity Boudoir shoot session isn’t just about capturing the love, excitement and anticipation in these moments leading up to meeting your newest family member, but its about celebrating your growth into motherhood and embracing how phenomenal the human body is.

Whether you are wanting to get a Maternity Boudoir Session to capture just yourself or you and your partner, it can be a little unnerving. If you are thinking about booking a Maternity session and have a few questions about it, then this is post is for you.

When do we book?

The earlier you can get a session pencilled in the better! Most photographers (including myself!) are using booked out in advanced by months. Personally, I am a VERY good secret keeper so if you tell me before anyone else knows, I won’t spill the beans - I promise! To book a maternity session, click here.

How far into my pregnancy should I book?

During the third trimester is always recommended as the perfect time for maternity sessions. Obviously each pregnancy is different, but usually aiming to have your session booked in for around 30-35 weeks is a really good timeframe.  You are more than welcome to book a session closer to your due date, however if Bub decides to come early, you might miss your opportunity. Although, I will always make sure you are is always comfortable and be patient with you if you need some extra breaks, it’s important to keep in mind that for some pregnancies, the last few weeks can be uncomfortable for Mum and can make it hard stand for long periods or achieve certain poses.

Can I book with my Partner?

YES! I offer Lovers Session which can be shot as a maternity session. Just let me know on the booking form in the message box that this is what you are interested in booking.

What do we wear?

As for all my Boudoir Sessions, my number one tip is you can wear whatever you want, just make sure you feel comfortable! Here are my favourite outfit choices for maternity sessions:

  • Dressing gowns/robes
  • Lingerie - two piece and body suits work well
  • Sarongs/Wraps or even a sheet
  • Dresses - like a maxi or body con.
  • Nude/semi nude

If you are being photographed with your partner, I always recommend that they dress in tones/colours that are either similar to what you are wearing or compliment each other for a cleaner stylised look. I also recommend avoiding bold clashing patterns when choosing outfits. For men: jeans/long pants and a button up shirt is always recommended. Depending on the couple, men are welcome to be photographed shirtless or in underwear to capture a more Boudoir Styled session.

Where do we shoot?

I have heaps of little spots around FNQ that are my favourites for shooting Maternity Boudoir Sessions at. Some settings are rainforest, creeks (croc-free), grassy fields and beach. Just let me know what sort of location you were wanting and we can go from there.

What do I bring?

You don’t have to bring anything to your session if you don’t want to other than just yourself and the outfits you are planning to wear, but bringing along some items can make an adorable prop. If you already have some baby shoes, toys, ultrasound photos, family heirlooms or anything else that is significant to you or your partner feel free to bring it and we can incorporate it into the beginning of your session to capture some more "Facebook friendly” images before moving on to the rest of the session.
