Interview with Reagan Berger
The Love Story series are pieces written by real women, posted with some of their Boudoir photos. They are sharing with you their Body Love Journey and their experience with Leaf & Lace.
The following interview is with Reagan Berger.
Tell me about your Body Love Journey so far
I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with my body and have always wanted to be thin like a model. Through crazy dieting (mostly starving) and doing a ridiculous amount of gym workouts per day, I had achieved my goal of being thin. I remained miserable and realised that this body image I thought was perfect is not maintainable. As I’ve gotten older I’ve found a new appreciation and love for my body and the changes we go through, especially currently being pregnant.
What inspired you to do a Boudoir Shoot?
I followed Leaf & Lace after one of my good friends had done a shoot. I always thought a Boudoir Shoot was something I could never do myself but I loved the way Leaf & Lace embraced natural beauty. After seeing posts on my Instagram feed daily and how amazing the photoshoots were, I was inspired to book myself in.
Describe your shoot experience. How did you feel before/during/after your session?
I didn’t really know what to expect before my photoshoot. I had mixed feelings of nerves and excitement. As soon as I met Shelby, I instantly felt comfortable. I was made to feel beautiful and confident during my session. Afterwards I felt empowerment and the confidence I gained from the whole experience has been incredible.
Did you have any concerns or fears prior to the session? How did those play out?
My only fear was that I’d hate every single photo taken. When I received my album I was blown away by how much I actually loved the photos and how beautiful my body was. I ended up almost buying them all.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about booking a session of their own?
Just do it! Don’t wait for your body to be “ready”.
Has your session impacted your Body Love Journey? If so, how?
I no longer look at my body with hate. There’s a different level of confidence I now have that makes me feel like I can achieve anything.
What is your top Body Love tip?
Moisturise your whole body often! For me, I like to stand in front of the mirror naked after a shower and rub oils or moisturiser into my whole body. Sounds silly, but mentally this helps me to appreciate my cellulite, scars and stretch marks.
Write a Love Letter to your body.
Dear body,
I wish my younger self was kinder to you. You didn’t deserve the physical and mental abuse that was given. Over the years, I’ve watched you grow and change shape regularly. Currently writing this at 35 weeks pregnant and I am in awe that we are creating a life. I’ve never felt more beautiful, even with these extra kilos and stretch marks. I hope we still continue this body love journey postpartum.
Final Thoughts?
This whole experience with Leaf & Lace has been empowering, inspiring and amazing. I am looking forward to another shoot sometime in the near future.
